How to Install a Bosch Dishwasher – DIY Methods

Follow these steps to install your Bosch dishwasher yourself:

  • Shut Off the Power and Water Supply
  • Slide-in Your Dishwasher
  • Do the Drain Hose or Pipe Adjustment
  • Find the Junction Box
  • Connect the Water Supply to The Inlet Valve
  • Run A Dishwashing Cycle

Method A

Step One – Shut Off the Power and Water Supply

When you get your new appliance, the first thing to do is to shut off the power supply and the water supply under your kitchen sink to the dishwasher. This is very important as failure to do either one of the above-mentioned steps could cause a messy situation.

After doing this simple part, disconnect the access board below the Bosch dishwasher and set it aside. Be careful here, this part could be sharp.

Step Two – Slide in Your Dishwasher

You must make sure that the drainpipe is dragged in through your cabinet wall before you push in your brand-new dishwasher. After doing this, delicately move the appliance underneath the counter exactly the space it will fit in smoothly.

If the dishwasher is very short you can balance the legs easily below the appliance so that they will be on the same level. Then jam them into position with screws. Also, you will want to bolt the brace in that is on top of the appliance to the countertop. This is to ensure that it does not falter.

Step Three – Do the Drain Hose or Pipe Adjustment

Get hold of the drainpipe you previously slip in between the cabinet. Then drag the entire length through. Then you will attach the drainpipe to the garbage disposal or sink drainage using a clamp. Make sure that the pipe is high up than where it is connected so that there will be no drainage issue later.

Using a cable tie, tie up the pipe to anything above this connection. This is to ensure that there will not be an issue in the future.

Step Four – Find the Junction Box

It is located below the access board. Remove its cover to reveal the three screws: silver, green and gold. Loose each of these screws a little to enable you to connect the different cables to their corresponding slots.

Different dishwasher models may have a slight difference here, so it is imperative that you thoroughly read the product manual to understand this part.

Step Five – Connect the Water Supply to The Inlet Valve

Since the access board is off, the inlet valve can be seen easily now. You are going to attach it to your home water supply. It is also possible that there is still water inside the drain when the product manufacturers tested the appliance. As a result of this water might gush out from the drain.

Place the bottom access board back onto the dishwasher. The water and power are now ready to be turned on.

Step Six – Run A Dishwashing Cycle

Turn on the dishwasher and run a full cycle without any detergent or dishes. Check for any sign of leakages on the water supply hose and the drain pipe. Insert the toe-kick cover on the front of the appliance.

Method B

Step One

Loosen the strain relief plate so that you can have access to the electrical attachment on the appliance and attach the strain relief to it. Then put the power cable through this connection.

Fasten the clamp tightly around the cable wires but care must be taken not to tighten the clamp too much. Fix this entire connection into the junction box. Then fasten it with a screw.

Step Two

Detach 2-3” of the sheath at the cable wire end. Clear 1.5” of the sheaths from each wire. Put the green wire or naked copper in the opening that is marked ‘G’ and secures the screw.

Put the white wire in the opening ‘N’ and secure the screw. Put the black wire in the opening ‘L’ and secure the screw and return the junction box to its position.

Note that all screws must not be over-tightened.

Step Three

Connect the drain pipe using to drain connection at the back of the appliance a screwdriver brace. Fasten the other end of the pipe to the drainage pipe underneath your sink using a brace.

Ensure that the pipe is securely fastened before attaching with the brace.

Step Four

Delicately place your dishwasher on its back. Envelop the small brass bend with a Teflon tape and fasten it to the water supply line on the appliance particularly positioned at the back of the toe-kick sheath.

Connect your hot water line to the other brass bend end. Place the line in the passage under the system so that it runs out behind the appliance.

Carefully turn the dishwasher to its upright position and make sure the hot water line remains in the system. Turn on your hot water supply underneath your kitchen sink. Examine the line for any sign of leakage at both links.

Step Five

Turn the dishwasher under the countertop till its door is on the same level as front of the drawers and cabinet doors. Find the 4 leg adjustments in the front of the appliance.

Using a screwdriver, align the dishwasher from the back to the front. Turn it clockwise to lift the appliance and anti-clockwise to put it down. Repeat the same procedure to level it from one side to the other.

Step Six

Move the attached mounting brackets positioned on top of the appliance far apart as much as they can go. Then use a screw and fasten tightly. Do the same with the other brackets.

Step Seven

Turn on the dishwasher. Then run a full cycle without any detergent or dishes. Check for any sign of leakages on the water supply hose and the drain pipe. Insert the toe-kick sheath in the front of the appliance.

What Makes the Bosch Dishwashers Unique?

  • They are noise-free.
  • They are beautifully designed.
  • They have a large capacity.

They Are Noise-Free

This dishwasher company produces models that are noise-free. Their noise levels on the average are about 38dBA. This is due to how it was built.

These dishwashers are built with 3 layers of soundproofing insulation and they lie on a solid molded base. This keeps vibrations during use to its minimal level.

In place of the usual detergent compartment inside the door found in standard machines, many Bosch dishwashers models have a detergent tray. They also have accurate spray arms that reduce the spraying of water on the door throughout the dishwashing cycle.

Their motor system has 2 small brushless motor mechanisms instead of one big one. They both lie on a rubber suspender to keep vibrations quiet. These dishwashers add indicator lights to alert users when a cycle is on.

How to Install a Bosch Dishwasher — Related FAQs

Can You Put A Bosch Dishwasher and Microwave on The Same Circuit?

You cannot put a Bosch dishwasher and a microwave on the same circuit. Each socket in your house is rated 20 amps or 15 amps. For your safety, you should never load a circuit above 80% of its maximum load capacity.

What this means in practice is that for a 15-amp circuit, you should not load the circuit beyond 1440 watts when running on 120 volts. And for a 20-amp circuit on the same voltage, the maximum load should never exceed 1920 watts.

Therefore, running your dishwasher (1400amps) along with your microwave (700 to 1400 amps based on model and size) will blow your circuit.

Can You Run A Refrigerator and A Bosch Dishwasher on The Same Circuit?

You can run a refrigerator and a Bosch dishwasher on the same circuit. You will have to comply with these regulations:

  1. A cabinet installed dishwasher (cord and plug dishwasher fastened in place), not rated above 16 amps.
  2. A mini dishwasher (cord and plug dishwasher not secured in place) rated ten amps or below.
  3. A mini-refrigerator (cord and plug refrigerator not fixed in place) with a rating of 16 amps or below.

Only when you have met these conditions, can you have a dishwasher and a refrigerator on the same branch circuit.

Does A Bosch Dishwasher Need an Air Gap?

Your Bosch dishwasher requires an air gap during installation. The air gap prevents drain water from flowing back into the dishwasher. New models of Bosch dishwashers, however, can be installed without an air gap, but the installation must include a 30 inches high drain loop in the dishwasher’s drain system.

A high drain loop is not an air gap, but it serves the same purpose as an air gap. Because of its design, it prevents drain water from the sink or the dishwasher from flowing back into the dishwasher washtub.

Depending on the area you live in, your local installation code can mandate you to install your dishwasher with an air gap.

How Much Would A Plumber Charge To Install A Bosch Dishwasher?

A plumber will charge between $67 to $500 to install your Bosch dishwasher. Note that these prices do not include the value of the dishwasher appliance itself.

The cost of your dishwasher installation will depend on the amount of work that needs to be done. If you are replacing an old dishwasher, then it will be cheaper compared to when you want to have a new dishwasher installed.

Installing a new dishwasher requires preparing the area for installation, some plumbing, and wiring. In contrast, a replacement service will not require wiring. Plumbing services will only be needed if the new dishwasher runs on a different valve from that of the old one.

Can You Plug a Bosch Dishwasher into a Regular Outlet?

Your Bosch dishwasher can either be cord and plugged or hard-wired. Cord and plug dishwashers can be plugged into a regular outlet. The regular outlet must meet these specifications.

It must use a 60 Hz, 120 volts, 15 amps (20 amps recommended), fused electrical supply, and copper wires only. It must include a circuit breaker or a time fuse. The outlet must be installed on a separate circuit.

Use a UL listed power cable with three prongs when installing a cord and plug Bocsh dishwasher.

Hard wired dishwashers must be connected using a flexible, nonmetallic sheathed, armored copper wire. Ensure the cable is grounded. Install using a UL-listed strain relief.

Do You Need A Junction Box When Installing A Bosch Dishwasher?

You need a junction box when installing your hard-wired dishwasher. Here’s how to install the junction box:

  1. Feed your hard-wired electric supply through the strain relief on the junction box.
  2. Tighten the strain relief to secure the power cable.
  3. Unscrew the cover on the junction box to reveal its terminals.
  4. Unscrew the terminal screws and attach the power cable. Connect the wires from the power supply to the junction box terminals.
  5. The black, -L, or live wire goes into the hot terminal on the junction box. The white, -N, or neutral wire goes into the neutral terminal while the green or ground wire goes to the ground terminal.
  6. When you are done, screw the cover in place and plug the dishwasher cord into the appliance. When plugged in correctly, you will hear a click sound.
